I have consciously avoided writing a whole lot about politics on our blog, choosing to keep it light, somewhat funny (I hope), and all about Greg’s and my life. However, since Greg and I talk about politics so much lately, I guess this is kind of about us. We are TERRIFIED by the massive support for Gov. Palin as a running-mate for John McCain. We had said long ago that his choice in running mate is of utmost importance due to his health issues and age. Well, he definitely injected some youth and vigor into his campaign with Palin. Unfortunately, along with her youth and vigor come ultra-conservative politics, evangelical Christian ideals, and a sort of “zombie feminism” that only plays into the misogynistic mind-set of this country and that goes against almost everything true feminists have fought for over the past many decades. The phrase “zombie feminism” came from a brilliant article which I hope at least a few people will take the time to read. In case you’re not up for the read, here are 2 of my favorite quotes:
What Palin so seductively represents … is a form of feminine power that is utterly digestible to those who have no intellectual or political use for actual women. It’s like some dystopian future … feminism without any feminists.

Palin’s femininity is one that is recognizable to most women: She’s the kind of broad who speaks on behalf of other broads but appears not to like them very much. The kind of woman who … achieves her power by doing everything modern women believed they did not have to do: presenting herself as maternal and sexual, sucking up to men, evincing an absolute lack of native ambition, instead emphasizing her luck as the recipient of strong male support and approval. It works because these stances do not upset antiquated gender norms.
Greg also found a fantastic clip on YouTube that sums up some of our fears. True, its Matt Damon, but its intelligent, funny and hits VERY close to home.
If you truly believe in what McCain/Palin stand for, then by all means, vote for them. Just PLEASE do not be fooled by the recent hype.
